1821 Memorial Parade (March 25th) – It is the celebration of Greek uprising against Turks in 1821 and also the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This event in Heraklion takes place in the main street of the city.

September

The 2 days cultural event during September in Arkalohori.
Traditional Grape Harvesting called “Trigos” takes place in several villages.
Birth of the Virgin Mary (September 8th) - Festival at the Monastery of Panagia Kera.

June

The festival of Agios Ioannis Klidonas (June 24th) – In this Heraklion event locals celebrate the longest daylight of the year. There are fires, dances and tsikoudia (local Cretan drink) till late at night.

October

“Raki” Distillation - It is a Cretan ritual that takes place in every village. There is plenty of raki and food “meze”.

July

St. Paraskevi festival of Pendamodi Village (July 26th).
Cultural events (July and August) at Moires, Festos and Tymbaki, villages of Heraklion.
Heraklion - Summer "Heraklion – Kalokairi" (July 1st – September 25th) - Every year Heraklion Municipality organizes many events and festivals throughout the city that take place at the open air theatre Oasis, the Nikos Kazantzakis and Manos Hatzidakis, surrounded by gardens and in squares and several villages. The program has opera, classical ballet, ancient drama (tragedy and comedy), oratorio, modern and children's theatre, concerts etc.

Festival of the opening of the new wine barrels (3rd week of November).
St Minas Parade (November 11th) - It is a small-scale event in the main street of Heraklion. Locals commemorate the city's patron saint, St Minas.
