January

Febraury

Viareggio Carnival - A celebration lasting over three weeks, during the Mardi Gras season. Floats and parades featuring papermache puppets, entertainers, clowns and fantastic displays transpose a truly spectacular extravaganza.

September

Joust of the Sarecen (1st Sunday in September) - This festival in Florence commences with a beautiful pageant followed by a medieval jousting re-enactment.
Rificolona- Festival of the Paper Lanterns (September 7th) - This Florence event stems from when the travellers descended from the mountains to Florence carrying lanterns, lighting up the city. Modern days see mainly the children hanging the lanterns from the windows.
Antique and Trade Fair (beginning of Sept until end of Oct) - Specialist dealers from all over the globe meet to buy and sell their collectibles and antiques.

April

Explosion of the Cart (Easter Sunday) - This unique event in Florence takes place in Piazza del Duomo, whereby white oxon pull along a wooden cart laden with fireworks, then a mechanical dove shape flies out of the well known city and sets the cart alight-this tradition so the saying goes, wishes the people a good prosperous harvest along with good luck.
Vespizzaleri - This annual event in Florence is arranged by the Vespa Club Firenze. Lovers of the legendary scooter “the vespa” meet up to have a good time combined with live music and cuisine.
Spring/Autumn-Plant & FlowerShows- Giardino dell’ Orticoltura - Various exhibitions of splendid colourful flowers and plants are showcased throughout this time year at the Giardino dell’ Orticoltura.

October

Festival of the Thrush (last Sunday in October) - This splendid archery event in Florence is played out in the ancient ‘Fortezza Castle’.

May

Ice-cream Festival – This event in Florence features Italy’s finest ice-cream makers who assemble in Prazza ss Annunziata to display their delicious luxurious ice-cream to be tasted by the public.
International Iris Competition - The prestigious Iris Garden welcomes gardeners from all corners of the globe to splendour at the beautiful flowers.
Falcon Contest (4th Sunday in May) - Firstly a medieval pageant meanders through the streets culminating at the ‘Pizza de Duomo’ followed by a mechanical falcon being targeted by marksmen with crossbows.
Bonfire of the Vanities (May 23rd) - Festivities occur in remembrance of  Domenican Friar Savonavola, who was against the renaissance and encouraged citizens to bring forth art and culture works as well as books to be burnt on a bonfire.

November

Florence Christmas Fair - Inside the Stazione Leopolda are decorated stands, activities, demonstrations all with seasonal festive themes.

June

Festival of the Crickets (Ascension Day) - This event in Florence comprises of the little insect, the cricket, being sold on this day and then subsequently set free on grass. It is a festival dating back to when gentlemen left crickets on the doorstep as a declaration of love to their loved ones.
Costume Football Game (June 24th) - This is a major highlight in Florence’s calendar, prior to the big match, a spectacular parade is unveiled with much joy and exhilaration.
Festival of Saint John (June 24th) – This festival in Florence commemorates the life of Saint John with a procession of masked costumed people accompanied by fireworks, music and dancing and much frivolity.
