At the opening procession the Statue of Our Lady of Sorrows is carried through the streets of Valletta on the Friday before Palm Sunday, although the Good Friday procession is the most memorable of all.


Il Vitorja (September 8th) – Due to commemorate the end of the Great Siege of 1565 and the end of the French occupation of Malta in 1800 a parade by the Armed Forces of Malta is held in the morning. During the afternoon a traditional rowing boat regatta takes place in the Grand Harbour.


Medieval Mdina – The two day festival in Malta focuses on re-enactments, pageantry and floral displays including a medieval street market, jousting as well as medieval games for everyone. Don’t miss this special event in Malta. (
International Fireworks Festival (April - May) – In Valetta harbor several Maltese and foreign fireworks factories participate in this competitive event, presenting spectacular pyrotechnic displays synchronized to music.


Birgufestival – This festival in Vittoriosa offers open-air events, historical reenactments, street theatre and concerts. A special atmosphere is created during this event in Malta as on one evening the residents lighten up their houses and the whole area with candles and turn off the electric lights.
Middle Sea Race – This boat race is one of the oldest and toughest offshore racing Classics which is starting and finishing in Malta's historic Grand Harbour and takes the fleet around the Italian island of Sicily. (

L’Imnarja (June 29th) - This feast takes place in Buskett Garden (some kilometers from Rabat) to commemorate the islands saints St Peter and St Paul. Also during the late afternoon horse and donkey races are held in a country lane situated at some distance from Mdina.
Ghanafestival – This music festival celebrates the music heritage of Malta and the Mediterranean.
