January
Epiphany or Kings Day (January 6th) - It is a Christian feast day and one of the most important festivals in Spain. There are plenty of gifts, sweets and parades. Porrat de San Anton “St Anthony’s day” (January 17th) – It is a religious event in Alicante that celebrates the patron saint of the city. There is a market where people sell traditional food and a small fair is held.
July
Fiestas Virgen del Carmen (July 16th) - It is the celebration of the patron saint of sailors, Virgen del Carmen. Fishermen and sailors offer flowers to the statue of the Virgen that is carried through the city to the sea. Summer Festival or Festival de Verano de Alicante (July - August) – This Alicante event is a two month program of several festivities such as music, theatre and dance shows. Jazz Festival (begins in July ends in August) - During this Alicante event great musicians gather to the city in order to give various jazz performances around the city.
February
Alicante Carnival - A colorful carnival is held for three weeks. Don Carnaval and Dona Cuaresma open the Carnival, which is followed by daily street celebrations.
August
Virgen del Remedio (August 5th) - During this religious Alicante event the matron saint of Alicante “Virgen del Remedio” is honored by launching parades. The Elche Mystery Play - It is a beautiful play of the Virgin's Assumption, performed inside Elche's Santa Maria Basilica.
March
Dia de San Josė "St Joseph’s Day" (March 19th) – It is a religious festival in Alicante. The Moors and Christians Festival – It is one of the major Alicante events celebrations mixing religion, history and street carnival. Semana Santa “Holy Week” (March - April) – It is celebrated in Alicante with spectacular prayers, processions and celebrations.
September
Virgen del Socorro (between September 6th and 10th) - This event in Alicante is celebrated with festivities including dancing, music and local food.
May
The Fiesta of the May Crosses – It is a religious Alicante event during which streets balconies and squares are decorated with flowers in cross formations. Santa Faz Pilgrimage - It is one of the most popular festivals in Alicante. Approximately 200,000 people walk in pilgrimage from the city centre to the Monasterio de Santa Faz (Monastery of the Holy Face).
December
Festititeres (early December) - It is an annual international puppet festival in Alicante, with many performances, workshops and displays held at various venues around the city. Ano Neuvo “New Year” (Dec 31st – Jan 1st) – There is a party in Plaza del Ayuntamiento (City Hall Square) for the countdown where people drink champagne and eat grapes.
